There's a lot of questions that need to be answered about which player the Edmonton Oilers will choose 1st overall at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Split into categories of the offensive, defensive and intangibles, I try to help explain their differences.Begin Slideshow
Patience.
That was the key word in the Oilers' long term plans going into the trade deadline. Now that it has been a little while since the trades were completed, it may be appropriate to gauge how successful this year's deadline was.
The Oilers' season has long been over, and Edmontonians have long bought into the idea of being patient.
Another key word: vision.
Right now it's hard to appreciate what the Oilers' vision ...
In the photo above, some of Ethan Moreau's fine handiwork is on display. Moreau upends Mike Weaver behind the Blues net.
The Oilers' captain Moreau is one of many players rumoured to be on the way out of Edmonton. It appears that even the players have no idea what is going on, even leaning on media guys like Robin Brownlee for trade rumours.
Strange days in Edmonton.
Fernando Pisani is rumoured also to ...

News has filtered down from Steve Yzerman and the secretive Team Canada roster selection process that Dustin Penner and Corey Perry have been added to the list of Olympic hopefuls.
It's about time.
Penner, was once considered by many to be a complimentary player to Perry and Ryan Getzlaf on their path to the Stanley Cup in the spring of 2006-07.
He has continued to provide about the same offence as he did ...

News came in today that the Los Angeles Kings, hit with a mere 39 man games lost to injury this season, called up Brayden Schenn on an emergency basis after Andrei Loktionov injured his shoulder in the Wednesday match against the Oilers.
Now I understand it's a matter of perspective, but with the Oilers losing 146 man games to injury this season, it's interesting that the Oilers wouldn't have tried anything ...

After a disappointing and demoralizing loss against the Chicago Blackhawks Saturday, it would be easy for the Edmonton Oilers to feel bad for themselves, falling under .500 at 10-11-3 overall.
Pat Quinn and Tom Renney had the team's leaders meet and have a honest, no-holds-barred chat this weekend on what the team culture is and how to get everybody on the same page in terms of ...

When GM Steve Tambellini and Kevin Lowe were forced to let Craig MacTavish go due to a few seasons of little success, many in the organization looked like they were ready to ask the tough questions.
Where had the organization gone wrong?
Ales Hemsky is on a point-per-game pace and Dustin Penner is poised to set career highs. Lubomir Visnovsky is finally healthy and leading the troops on the blue.
Stillùwhy can't this ...
Sticking to the Program: Edmonton Oilers Come from Behind Against Avs
Posted: 19th November 2009 by Antony Ta in NHL
In the middle of the week when all the sports media could talk about was how much the they had been losing as of late, the Edmonton Oilers ground out a gritty, come-from-behind win against the Northwest-division leaders, the Colorado Avalanche.
This young Oilers team, undersized in comparison to the Avs and without J.F. Jacques and Ryan Stone in the lineup, showed that it could stand up to the likes of ...
One of the advantages enjoyed by the Oilers early on in the season was that they could roll any of their four lines and expect some level of offensive spark and defensive competence.
With the development of complications due to swine flu and injuries, the Oilers slowly saw their early season success fade away. The Oilers also lost a few games that they should have won.
But that's all in the past ...
The Edmonton Falcons…Er…Thunder…Er…Oilers Take the Ice

Wow: what a string of injuries.
In addition to the already long string of injuries on the Oilers roster, today there was news that both Fernando Pisani and Patrick O'Sullivan have sustained injuries.
Though the contribution from Springfield Falcons' call-ups have been amiable so far, one wonders how much longer the Oilers will have to keep going to the well before it's dry. Will we have to start calling up Thunder ...
