Posted: 30th March 2010 by Adam Bernacchio in MLB
Yesterday, I looked at the “Key” player for each National League East team, so today I will cover the National League Central.
Here is the “Key” player for each National League Central team.
St. Louis Cardinals: Brad Penny
Normally this title is reserved for Chris Carpenter, but I feel good about Carpenter staying healthy this season. With Carpenter and Adam Wainwright at the top of the rotation, the Cardinals are set.
However, they need ...

Next up in our updated Starting Nine series is the National League Central.
Outside of the St. Louis Cardinals re-signing Matt Holliday, there haven’t been any big-time offensive additions to this division. As a whole, this might be the weakest offensive division in baseball (yes, even passing the NL West).
Let’s take a look at the updated starting lineups for all six teams in this division.
St. Louis Cardinals

The ‘Key’ Player For Each National League East Team
Posted: 29th March 2010 by Adam Bernacchio in MLB
Last year I started a series that featured the 'Key' player for each team. A 'Key' player is someone who was injured or had a down year the year before and if they can come back to form, their respective team would be vastly improved.
This year I thought I would continue this series and go division by division to identify the 'Key' player for each team.
Here is the 'Key' player ...
MLB Starting Rotation Update: National League East
Posted: 29th March 2010 by Adam Bernacchio in MLB
This week, along with looking at each team’s updated starting lineup, I wanted to take a look at each team’s updated starting rotation.
I will start in the National League East and go from there.
The NL East is home to perhaps the two best pitchers in baseball in Roy Halladay and Johan Santana. Not only are there superstar pitchers in this division, there are also ...
Back in January, I started a series that took a look at each team’s starting lineup headed into the season.
With injuries, some last-minute free-agent signings, and more importantly, Opening Day being just a week away, I thought I would update this series.
Let’s take a look at each updated lineup in the National League East. Since the pitcher will hit ninth, I just inserted the team’s top pitcher in the ...
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim’s Scott Kazmir was scratched from his start on Thursday against the Texas Rangers because of a stiff throwing shoulder.
In other words, Kazmir is hurt.
Here are some other things are that are guaranteed to happen:
Nick Johnson will land on the DL at some point during the season
Lost will throw in a new twist every week
Gus Johnson’s head will explode on a game-winning shot
The Pittsburgh ...
Yesterday I took a look at which batters were ripping up the Cactus and Grapefruit Leagues.
So naturally, today I will look at which pitchers are in midseason form.
Here are the spring training All-Star pitchers. Stats are through March 25, 2010.
SP: Tim Hudson, Atlanta Braves—3-1 with a 1.35 ERA and 17 K’s in 20.1 IP
Hudson is fully recovered now from Tommy John surgery and could turn into the Braves’ ace ...
Believe it or not, the New York Yankees have had a very quiet offseason. There has been nobody busted for steroids, the manager isn’t on a short leash, and there is no drama surrounding the team.
And in other news of the bizarre, the University of Kentucky has dropped their basketball program.
Just because the Yankees have had a quiet offseason by their standards, doesn’t mean things are happening in Yankee land. ...
With spring training almost over, it’s time to take a look who is tearing up both the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues.
Here are the Spring Training All-Stars...
(All stats are through Wednesday, March 24.)
C—Mike Napoli, LAA—.313/5/9/.405
If Mike Scioscia had any faith in Napoli behind the plate, he could hit 40 home runs during the regular season. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that will ever happen.
1B—Chris Davis, Texas Rangers—.353/2/10/.389
Davis is doing his ...
