Posted: 14th September 2009 by Adam Bernacchio in MLB
Yesterday against the Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners’ superstar Ichiro Suzuki broke a major league baseball record that stood for over 100 years. With his second inning infield single, Ichiro became the first player in major league history to record nine straight seasons of at least 200 hits. Ichiro broke the record of eight consecutive 200 hit seasons set by Hall of Famer “Wee” Willie Keeler, who accomplished this feat from 1894-1901. Not ...

Baseball Nirvana: Five Friends Journey to Milwaukee and Iowa (Part 2)

Day 2 After getting a good night's sleep in which I won the snoring contest for the night and Charlie froze despite wearing jeans and a track jacket, we woke up bright and early to head to Dyersville, Iowa, to play on the Field of Dreams. We weren’t quite sure how long the drive from downtown Milwaukee to Dyersville would take. MapQuest said around three hours, Justin’s friend said around three and ...

Move Over Brian Schneider, The Bell Thole(s) For Thee

Posted: 12th September 2009 by Adam Bernacchio in MLB
The New York Mets aren’t rich with position prospects. Sure they have Fernando Martinez and Wilmer Flores, but that’s really it for top prospects. So when the Mets called up C Joshua Thole, it caught me by surprise. I wasn’t surprised the Mets were trying to find an internal replacement for the incumbent Brian Schneider. Schneider is a free agent at the end of this year and doesn’t figure to be back with ...

Baseball Nirvana: Five Friends Journey To Milwaukee And Iowa. Part 1

There are very few things in my life that I would wake up at 4:30 in the morning for. If my wife went into labor at 4:30 in the morning, I certainly would wake up for that. Of course, I would need a wife first in order for that to happen. The other thing I would wake up at 4:30 in the morning for would be to have the opportunity to go to the ...

Madison Bumgarner Makes Debut for San Francisco Giants

Posted: 11th September 2009 by Adam Bernacchio in MLB
This has been a busy month for top prospects in the San Francisco Giants organization. First, Buster Posey was called up, and then, the other day, Madison Bumgarner was called up to take the place of an injured Tim Lincecum. The left-handed phenom made his major-league debut on Tuesday night against the San Diego Padres. Bumgarner gave up five hits, two runs, walked one, and struck out four in 5.1 innings ...

Brad Lidge Out as Philadelphia Phillies Closer

Posted: 11th September 2009 by Adam Bernacchio in MLB
It was only a matter of time before the Philadelphia Phillies relieved Brad Lidge of his closing duties. Yesterday, it became official. Lidge is out as Phillies closer. Minutes before last night’s game against the Washington Nationals, Phillies manager Charlie Manuel announced that Lidge will only pitch in “low-stress” situations, and Ryan Madson and Brett Myers will share the closer duties until Lidge becomes “right.” There’s nothing like going into the postseason having no ...

Thoughts From Around The Majors

Like George Costanza, I am back baby!!! I am back in New York City from a fantastic three days in Milwaukee and Iowa/Field of Dreams. I will be doing a full recap of the trip and everything that took place on it tomorrow. For today, I thought I'd give some thoughts as to what has been going on in the majors the last couple of days. Here we go… Carlos Beltran made his ...
