I remember being a fan of Jerry Manuel when he first got the job as manager of the New York Mets.
His easygoing attitude was a far cry from Willie Randolph, and at first, the players seemed to respond well.
How times have changed...
It now seems that Manuel and his laissez-faire demeanor have lost the team.
The Mets have picked up right where they left off in 2009, underperforming in the field and at the plate. They look woefully uninspired, which is quite a feat considering they're only six games into the season.
I went into this year believing that both Manuel and general manager Omar Minaya were on thin ice and that a slow start would mean the end for both. Starts don't get much slower than dropping the first two series of the season to the bottom-dwellers of your division.
