On almost every roster in the NBA there are one or two contracts that catch your eye immediately. You see the numbers a certain player is making and you wonder, how is this possible or what were they thinking?
In some cases, the contract makes sense. Teams are simply paying top-dollar for the backend of a great player’s career.
Shaquille O’Neal is a perfect example. Is he worth the $20 million the Cavaliers are paying him this season? No, but the last few years of an All-Star talent’s third NBA contract come at a fixed cost. It is the way of the league.
