It's been a pretty rough year and decade for the Cincinnati Reds, and Tom Browning's apparently had a rough year too: his last appearance in the news was in March, when he was arrested for failing to pay child support.
But 21 years ago Browning delivered perfection for the Reds on a rainy mid-September day by denying the Dodgers a single baserunner.
A little while ago I put together a summary of his finest hours and received a comment from one fan who, at age 9, was watching his first MLB game on that September 16. He's described the particular energy for the fan of watching a perfect game better than myself or a newspaper could, but in the meantime, here are Browning's own comments afterward:
