But sometimes the matchups still make the points irrelevant.
For example, oddsmakers know astute bettors will jump all over the San Diego Chargers, who play host to the hapless Oakland Raiders today. In order to sway bettors, oddsmakers have assigned one of the biggest spreads of the season, and are giving the Raiders 16 1/2 points.
