1st Place Mets Sweep Doubleheader

Posted: 28th April 2010 by Flushing Baseball Daily in MLB
Thanks to a rain-out on Monday the Mets played the Dodgers twice yesterday. The Mets won the first game 4-0 behind a strong pitching performance by Johan Santana. The offense powered them towards a 10-5 victory in a second game where Oliver Perez couldn’t pitch past the fourth inning. The pair of victories left the Mets in first place, half a game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies. Game 1 Notes Johan Santana’s ...
The Orlando Magic are the first team in the NBA Playoffs to advance to the second round and were the only team to sweep their first round opponents. However, if Dwight Howard continues to go down the same path he has been, the Magic may be eliminated sooner than the team expected to be. It isn’t his skills that could let the team down. He recently won the NBA’s Defensive Player of ...

Is The Bullpen the Weak Link Of The New York Yankees?

Posted: 28th April 2010 by Dan Hanzus in MLB
Everyone take a deep breath. Please remain calm. Promise me you won't give away your stereo, Whitesnake record and other possessions like the depressed guy from that one after-school special. The Yankees are in a slump. They've lost four of their last five games, and now sit 2.5 games behind the Rays in the American League East. Again, do not part ways with your Whitesnake record. Chances are strong the Yankees will right ...

What Does the Mets Winning Streak Mean?

Posted: 28th April 2010 by Joe Fiorello in MLB
The New York Mets have found themselves atop the NL East after the best home stand to date in Citi Field. The team was falling apart last week, but seem to have turned things around completely. They're arguably the hottest team in baseball right now. What are the Mets doing differently these days? They're taking advantage of other team's mistakes. They're playing clean and smart baseball. They're getting timely hits, solid pitching, ...
As has been widely reported, Bruins center Marc Savard is set to make his return to the team as they get ready for their second round playoff matchup. Savard will be playing in his first game since suffering a Grade Two concussion on March 7 in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Ironically the Bruins might just end up playing the Penguins if the Washington Capitals are able to beat the ...

Was Trading LB Jamar Williams A Mistake For the Chicago Bears?

Posted: 28th April 2010 by Jake Perper in NFL
The Chicago Bears had the best depth at linebacker in the NFL with Lance Briggs, Brian Urlacher, Pisa Tinoisamoa, Hunter Hillenmeyer, Nick Roach, Jamar Williams and Tim Shaw, but not anymore. Jamar Williams was traded yesterday to Carolina for SS Chris Harris, who will be back for his second stint in the windy city. The Bears still have backups in Hillenmeyer and Roach ...
Prior to the season I wrote an article entitled “Nolan Reimold: A Solid Option, But Not A 2010 Fantasy Sleeper” (click here to view).  The piece was in response to the many people who were considering Reimold a great sleeper selection to fill out their outfield after hitting 15 HR in 358 AB in ‘09. Over the season’s first month, Reimold has looked even worse than “solid”, and for all intents ...

New York Yankees Set to Host the New Era Pinstripe Bowl

Posted: 28th April 2010 by Danielle Correa in MLB
Last week, the NCAA’s Football Issues Committee granted a four-year license to the New Era Pinstripe Bowl for 2010-2013.  This decision by the committee marks the first time that it has licensed a bowl on a four-year cycle instead of taking the traditional year-by-year route. What better place to host these bowl games than in the pinstripe kingdom itself—Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are extremely proud to offer the use of their home field ...
The playoffs aren’t even over, and every fan around the country is already turning at least some of their attention to the upcoming 2010 Free Agent bonanza. It’s been talked about ad nauseam over the past few years, and is about to go into overdrive once whoever wins the title this year hoists the championship trophy.   A major reason a great deal of attention is being paid to the issue already ...

Detroit Red Wings Win in Seven, Move On to Face San Jose Sharks

Posted: 28th April 2010 by Samantha Cooke in NHL
You could feel the excitement walking to Jobing.com Arena. This is game seven. Yes, it is only the first round, but this is big. The Phoenix fans came out in full force for the White Out. The only colors in the stands were the sprinkling of red jerseys donning the Red Wings logo. The smack talking began on the walk over to the Arena. "Your team sucks and so does your city. Detroit ...
