John Tortorella vs. The Media: Round Two

Posted: 26th March 2010 by Broadway Hockey Daily in NHL
Earlier this season, John Tortorella had a run-in with NY Post writer Larry Brooks, seen here, and last night Torts had another run-in—this time with Journal News writer Rick Carpiniello after Carp questioned his overtime strategy. This entire ordeal started on March 8 after the Rangers had lost two-out-of-three games in overtime and on his blog Carpiniello suggested that Tortorella was being too passive with the Rangers during overtime. He recommended ...
With eight games remaining in the 2009-2010 regular season, the Pittsburgh Penguins are staggering towards the Stanley Cup playoffs like a punch-drunk prize fighter. This is, of course, a direct contrast to the 2008-2009 team that not only charged into the spring tourney, but kicked in the proverbial postseason door with a vengeance. The club’s 6-3-3 record since the end of the Olympic break is not overwhelmingly alarming, on paper or ...

Miguel Cabrera Poised for MVP Season

Posted: 26th March 2010 by Michael Waters in MLB
The Tigers were well on their way to the ALDS last year before a September collapse and an Alexi Casilla single ended their 2009 season and left them on the outside looking in, despite leading the AL Central race for much of the year. No one took it harder than star Miguel Cabrera, who blamed himself for a deflating September. Cabrera was blasted after news spread that he was drunk between ...

Posted: 26th March 2010 by Keith Schlosser in NBA
The Knicks have been preparing for a 2010 summer extravaganza, aiming to revamp virtually the entire team. Stars that could see their names in the New York City lights come July include Lebron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade. “Fallback” options even include Joe Johnson. Any of these players would put the organization in the right direction, but ever star needs a supporting cast. Because it’s unlikely for the Knicks ...

Posted: 26th March 2010 by Gary Suess in MLB
Rarely does a player experience such extremes from one year to the next, but Phillies closer Brad Lidge has lived that way since coming to the team in a trade two years ago.    In 2008, it was a year of perfection that culminated with teammates jubilantly piling on him when he recorded a strikeout to secure the Phillies' second World Series championship. The journey through the following season moved to the ...

It was just the second time this spring he surrendered runs, as he improved to 3-1, 3.66. Afterwards, he said he hasn’t been told anything about the ball club’s plans for him once the regular season opens, though he seems assured to start the ...

A Month Late, Daisuke Matsuzaka Finally Faces Major League Hitters

Posted: 26th March 2010 by Jeffrey Brown in MLB
It may be just 10 days before Opening Day, but for starting pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka—who has been sidelined by a series of aches and pains for a large portion of spring training—it’s much more akin to March 1. Dice-K took his first steps towards becoming a contributing member of the rotation yesterday with two innings of work against the Florida Marlins, allowing a run on two hits in his outing. It was ...

LeBron James: I Could Win The Scoring Title Every Year

Posted: 26th March 2010 by Tom Delamater in NBA
Comments made by LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers are drawing media attention across the country. Brian Windhorst, Cavaliers beat writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, posted a story early Friday in which he noted James’ razor-thin lead in the NBA scoring race. He and Oklahoma’s Kevin Durant are separated by just one-tenth of a point (29.8 to 29.7 ppg) with just three weeks remaining in the regular season. James was unconcerned, ...

Posted: 26th March 2010 by Brian DiTullio in NFL
With draft prospects Eric Berry and Joe Haden visiting the Browns next month, it’s time to look at what the team currently has in its secondary.   Eric Wright, Mike Adams, Robaire Smith, Kenyon Coleman, Brandon McDonald, David Veikune, and C.J. Mosley were some of the names littering the Browns' secondary last season.   While all of these guys had playing time last year, doing a blanket review of last season doesn’t leave any ...
