Alright B/R fans you asked for it so here it is, round two of our Fans Draft. Round one was a success and we’ll expect nothing less this time around.
Hopefully this will give fans a chance to get an idea of what the second round could look like, and also pretty much just help pass the time until the real thing happens in April.
The same rules apply, and we’ll leave ...
2010 N. L. Central Preview: Redbirds Should Fly High In St Louis
Posted: 30th March 2010 by Jeffrey Brown in MLB
After a middling 2008 season (86-76, fourth place), the Cardinals rebounded nicely in 2009 to win the NL Central with a 91-71 record, thanks in large part to the mid-season acquisition of LF Matt Holliday. While the Redbirds managed to re-sign Holliday this off-season, the club lost several other of its key contributors this winter.
Whether the team will be able to compete with the Philliles for the pennant will be ...
2010 N. L. Central Preview: Cubs Good, But Not Good Enough
Posted: 30th March 2010 by Jeffrey Brown in MLB
The 2008 edition of the Chicago Cubs had the best record in the National League (97-64) and should have repeated last season, but injuries, career-worst performances, and the plague that is known as Milton Bradley created a second-place ballclub.
The offense scuffled, Carlos Zambrano typically underperformed, and the bullpen was abysmal. All of these factors led to a very pedestrian 83-78 record and a second place finish. The Cubbies should be ...
2010 N. L. Central Preview: Is Milwaukee Brewing A Winner?
Posted: 30th March 2010 by Jeffrey Brown in MLB
The glass slipper slipped off the Brewers foot last year as the club came crashing back to Earth after a Cinderella run in 2008. Of course, after the free agent departures of longtime ace Ben Sheets and half-season workhorse Carlston Charles Sabathia, the slide wasn’t all together unexpected. The Brew Crew finished the year with a record of 80-82, good for third place in the NL Central.
The club has added ...
2010 N. L. Central Preview: Reds Hoping To Find Winning Formula
Posted: 30th March 2010 by Jeffrey Brown in MLB
The Cincinnati Reds finished the 2009 season in fourth place with a 78-84 record. As the club enters the 2010 season, there finally appears to be some honest-to-goodness hope that better days may lie ahead. They could finish as high as second place—IF everything goes right—but I think they’d need to be completely healthy to do so, and with Edinson Volquez unavailable until at least August they’re starting the ...
Santonio Holmes Joins Big Ben on Pittsburgh’s “Feelhers”
Posted: 30th March 2010 by Wesley Sykes in NFL
Ben Roethlisberger now has a wing man on the Pittsburgh "Feelhers". Wide receiver Santonio Holmes has joined his quarterback with his off-the-field activities that is leaving the Steelers looking more like their division rival Bengals than a six-time Super Bowl winning franchise.
Holmes, a former Super Bowl MVP, allegedly hit a woman in the face with a glass at an Orlando nightclub and then offered to pay her so she wouldn't ...
Patriots Draft Strategy: Stocking Up on Second Rounders Beneficial?
Posted: 30th March 2010 by Akash A in NFL
The Patriots have never been afraid to trade down in the draft, seemingly trying to rack up as many second round picks as they can. Is this a smart strategy, both financially and in terms of the players they’re getting?
Well, looking at the 2003 NFL Draft (six to seven years to determine a player’s worth in the NFL seems reasonable), the drafting strategy of New England seems exceptionally brilliant.
First Round:

Washington Redskins: Top 10 Draft Picks of the Last Five Years
Posted: 30th March 2010 by Matt Raines in NFL
Now I know we have not had a lot of success in the draft lately. So making this top 10 really isn't that much of an accomplishment. This is pretty comparable to seeding the NIT.
Making this list is very tough considering some players have only played one year, some haven't fully developed yet, and some have an edge because of more playing time. I will include some projections of some ...
2010 N. L. Central Preview: Pittsburgh Pirates Futility To Continue
Posted: 30th March 2010 by Jeffrey Brown in MLB
Last season, the Pittsburgh Pirates went 62-99, turning in their 18th consecutive losing season and, in the process, establishing the longest stretch of futility in MLB history.
The ‘09 edition of the Pirates took a step backwards in order to start taking steps forward, and while I don’t expect MUCH in the way of improvement, I do expect SOME improvement as they begin the long road back towards respectability. The task ...
MLB Quick Pitches: Ron Gardenhire, Minnesota Twins Establish Committee
Posted: 30th March 2010 by Patrick DeCola in MLB
What I’m Reading
• Get ready for some comic mischief and summer-hijinks – and all of it outdoors! What I’m trying to say here is that the Twins are planning on using a closer-by-committee strategy in Joe Nathan’s absence.
• Erik Bedard, proud owner of the “I Pitch More Innings Playing Videogames While on the Disabled List than on the Mound” trophy, might actually be returning from injury sooner than originally thought. ...
