Pittsburgh Steelers: Playoffs or Not, Reality Check Needed
Posted: 2nd January 2010 by Nick DeWitt in NFL
As we all settle in for what will possibly be the last hurrah for the reigning Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers, it's time to start looking ahead.
The playoff hopes that the team and its fans are clinging to are slim, with the Steelers needing to win and then get help from several other teams to sneak in as the sixth seed.
Whether or not the Steelers pull off an improbable comeback ...

Posted: 2nd January 2010 by Ryan Maloney in NBA, NFL
I wasn't able to follow the first round of the Pathfinder Bank Oswego Hockey Classic today, but things seem to have shaken out the way most fans hoped.á
Tomorrow's title game will feature the host Oswego State Lakers and Elmira in the third match-up between those schools this season.á
Each has a victory on their home ice against the other.á Steve Petty was listening to all the action on the WNYO ...

Posted: 2nd January 2010 by Billy West in NHL
"Problems can become opportunities when the right people come together."
Robert South
Who would have thought that opportunity would become the Winter Classic for Michael Leighton?
Merely a fortnight or so ago the Flyers were faced with the idea of continuing their losing streak without Emery or Boucher in net.á Admittedly at the time I thought, what does it matter? The two top goaltenders in Philly might as well be injured, ...

Posted: 2nd January 2010 by 4 Sport Boston in NFL
(Originally posted on 4SportBoston.com )
Welcome to Week 17 of the NFL regular season. The week where some teams will be fighting for their lives while others shut down Command Central to rest their stars for the games that really matter. The week that so deftly mixes in the hum-druminess of an exhibition game with the life-or-death drama of the Super Bowl. The week the Colts may finally be able ...
If the score isánot closeáin Oakland and the Raiders get beat down on their home turf Sunday,áI will not be a bit surprised. If they come out and go toe to toe with theáRavens trying to take something positive into their offseason and give the Ravens early seats on the couch this year,áI will not be surprised.
The thing thatáI would most like for the Raiders to do is look inside ...

The new year is finally here, and with the stroke of midnight on Dec. 31, 2009, the year 2010 was brought in with the usual fanfare and celebration.
This is a great time of the year for many people. The new year signifies a new beginning to most. It's a time for resolutions, it's a time for optimism, and if you're a baseball fan, it's a time to see which former ...

Charged Up | Chargers-Redskins: Bolts Look To Keep Momentum Going for Playoffs
Posted: 2nd January 2010 by Eric Gomez in NFL
That bandwagon is getting a little creaky, as folks from Riverside to San Ysidro continue to pile on.
For five of the last six seasons, Charger fans find themselves in a familiar position: geared for the playoffs.
The AFC's version of the Philadelphia Eagles this decade (Last decade? The '00s? The noughties?), the Bolts have yet to parlay their sustained excellence into a Super Bowl victory.
Furthermore, heartbreaking losses, hard-luck injuries, and questionable ...
