It's really not easy being a big name coach. When you're a big name, you assume you're being hired for your coaching philosophy, so the tendency is to go straight into your signature coaching style, without really thinking about what's best for the team. The New York Knicks and the New York Rangers have both fallen victim to this Big Name Coach trap and both teams, and their coaches, seem to be ...

I think we can go ahead and throw out the sexy trade rumors that we've all heardá(and which I promoted here and here ) sinceáthe Vazquez trade. Frank Wren said today during the Braves' introduction of Troy Glaus that the Braves are likely to only pursue a minor piece or two from here on out (via David O'Brien's 4:58 post here ) to fill the bench and solidify remaining holes management ...

With the Washington Wizards sitting at 10-21 headed into their game against the Sixers, the biggest story of the season should be how awfully they have played in comparison to the expectations going into this season. Gilbert Arenas did the sports world one better by bringing firearms into the equation. He made the top stories on ESPN, which should be worth something right? For those of you who believe otherwise, there is ...

Catch the NFC Scenarios here. No. 6 seed: Baltimore Ravens á With Ed Reed in and out of the lineup, the concern has been that the Ravens' defense has been suffering. In reality, the Ravens' defense is still a solid unit, allowing 17 points of less in eight of their last ten games. The concern with the Ravens is more focused on the offense. The Ravens looked to be a complete team at the ...

ItÆs truly happy ôHollidayö in St. Louis, though us Cubs fans may not enjoy our New Year's quite as much now. For the Cubs division challenger and long-time bitter rival St. Louis Cardinals put a dagger into the rest of the division by announcing the team has re-signed free agent outfielder Matt Holliday to a seven-year, $120 million contract. It's a lot to pay for a player who seemingly had no other ...
We've all heard the arguments from his detractors (mostly unemployed NFL coaches like Brian Billick or NFL draft gurus who spend a lot of time primping their hair or the beer-bellies in the cheap seats). He doesn't take snaps from under center, they say. His throwing motion is too long, they say. He drops the ball too low on his delivery, they say. His arm strength is not great, they say. His running style won't ...
Without question, the New England Patriots have been the class of the NFL since Bill Belichick became their head coach back in 2000. Their three Lombardi Trophies, four Super Bowl appearances, 14 playoff wins, and .700 win percentage set them apart as the top franchise of the Noughtiesùa decade in which they endured only one losing season. YouÆd figure that the home for a team like this would be, ...
