Resting key players late in the season in games where there are no playoff implications has become a trend of late, with mixed emotions from both the media and the team's fan base.
From one viewpoint it's hard to disagree with a coach's decision to rest his star players when nothing is on the line. It has been said that the football gods favor the bold, but then again you ...
Here we sit in the first week of 2010, and the Atlanta Braves still, seemingly, have a hole to fill in the outfield.
With a starting group currently composed of Cabrera-McLouth-Diaz (the Braves will probably end up taking the Hanson route with Heyward), you can kind of see why.
With that in mind, though, you have to think that the Braves aren't going to be looking to break the bank (sorry, no ...
Five New Year’s Resolutions for Important Sports Figures

Merry Christmas. Happy Hanukkah. Happy Kwanzaa. Happy New Year, and any other Happy-(fill in a made up holiday) that I happened to miss during my month-long hiatus.
There's no way you can have a well-established blog during the holiday season. I'm convinced.
Between the shopping, school finals, decorations being put up, and having to lie to everyone under the age of 10 about Santa Claus...it takes a toll on one's ability to ...
The Baseball America Prospect rankings were released last week, a list coveted by fans and media, but otherwise superfluous for the organizations themselves, who have their own rankings and plans for their players. The Red Sox minor league system has some gems, but the conclusions that BA came to should be slightly disturbing. The list of the top ten prospects, as I say, seems strong, with names that we ...
San Francisco Giants: How Barry Zito Can Make Fans Forget He’s Overpaid
Posted: 2nd January 2010 by Andy Bensch in MLB
After spending his first seven seasons in the league across the bay with the Oakland Athletics, Barry Zito hit the jack pot with a seven-year $126 million contract with the San Francisco Giants.
When Zito signed what was then the richest contract of any starting pitcher in MLB history back in 2006, Giants fans were expecting to receive pitching worthy of top money. Unfortunately, they have yet to witness any long ...
In 95 games as Bears head coach, Lovie Smith is 51-44, and the third winningest coach since the team was founded in 1919.
However, after three straight seasons without a playoff birth, the fans as well as the press are calling for a change. If the history of hiring head coaches in Chicago is any indication, nothing will improve.
In 91 years of franchise history, the Chicago Bears have NEVER hired a head coach. They have merely ...
I know this is a little late – I was out of town, visiting my relatives - as Kurt Cobain once said, “All apologies” – but, here’s my analysis on the trade the Columbus Blue Jackets (CBJ) made, earlier this week.
BTW, isn’t it always the case that all the earth-shattering – well, for Columbus, Ohio, this would qualify as earth-shattering – things occur when you’re out of town?
Well, the free-falling ...
People speculate even where no speculation is even called for. Other times, like most days working for the District of Columbia's NFL team, rumors and speculation run as rampant as Chris Johnson has this season.
Next season a plethora of great coaches—Bill Cowher, Mike Shanahan, Brian Billick, Jon Gruden, and perhaps even for the right price, Tony Dungy—will be available to teams who are looking to hit the panic button ...
In case you missed it last night, Spencer Hawes saw extended playing time last night versus the Lakers—just his third game of over 40 minutes in only 31 games—and didn’t block a single shot the whole night.
But that’s ok.
What Hawes did accomplish was a stellar 12-for-20 shooting affair that garnered 30 points along with, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, a single steal and four three-pointers.
Sadly, the Lakers still won.
But for Hawes, ...
The IceMan’s Rant: What Happened to Defense in the NHL?

Nucks and Philly

O.K. IÆve stayed quiet long enough. Forty games û nothing, calm and controlled, but now IÆve got to rant!
WhatÆs with this pamsey, whamsey, no touch in the front of the net, you canÆt fight for position garbage?
This question is for any people that have coached or played hockey. This is not meant to eliminate others, because I want your opinion also.
Why is ...
