The 1999 Cleveland Indians had one of the best lineups in the history of Major League Baseball.
They had incredible individual accomplishments. Three sluggers combined for 108 homers. Four hitters had RBIs in the triple-digits. Five players scored 100 or more runs.
They became the first team in nearly 50 years to score 1,000 runs in a season. More importantly, their incredible bats more than compensated for the unremarkable pitching staff; the ...

Come To Think Of It: Phillies Must Pitch Cliff Lee on Short Rest
Posted: 31st October 2009 by Bob Warja in MLB
It's one thing to say that Cliff Lee won't pitch Game Four of the World Series when the series is tied at a game apiece and your Phillies have a chance to go up 2-1.
But now that the Yankees have taken a series lead, to bypass your ace and risk falling behind 3-1 is a crime.
I haven't disagreed with much of what Phillies manager Charlie Manuel has decided over ...
The Detroit Pistons dropped their second game in a row to the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday, 96-85. Brandon Jennings, the Bucks first round pick this summer, torched the Pistons for 24 points. Hakim Warrick was also able to exploit the Pistons to the tune of 21 points, thanks in part to taking 15 free throws and sinking 10.
Similar to the game against Oklahoma City, the Pistons came out strong ...
Blazers-Rockets: Houston Wins Without Big Stars 111-107
Posted: 31st October 2009 by Busta Bucket in NBA
On a day dominated by football in Oregon, the Blazers took a trip to Houston to take on the pesky Houston Rockets.
Unlike Tuesday's opening night game, the Rockets were focused and determined to show the Blazers they can play without Yao, McGrady, or Ron Artest.
This particular contest was different than any I'd really seen before from these two teams. Offense seemed to dominate for both, with Houston coming out ...
Philadephia Phillies-New York Yankees Game Three World Series Notes

10) Well, that was fun. If you like the Yankees, or rectal pain. Otherwise, not so much. 9) One of the reasons why baseball will never be football: hitting The Centaur, Alex Rodriguez, with a pitch might make you feel good, but not nearly enough, since it's really not a help for your team. And he's potentially just two games away from having a World Championship. I think ...
Seattle Seahawks in Need of a Teel Change on Offense?
Posted: 31st October 2009 by Lars Hanson in NFL
Matt Hasselbeck and Seneca Wallace have both been under center this season for the Seattle Seahawks.
Hasselbeck, the pure starting quarterback has played in four games (three complete games) after battling a fractured rib for two weeks.
Sen-I-cat (Seneca Wallace) has been the second string quarterback for the Seahawks before I even became a fan of the Seahawks (and it's a while back I don't remember when I did).
Wallace filled in for ...
Pittsburgh Penguins Players of the Month, October 2009
Posted: 31st October 2009 by Sergey Zikov in NHL
Although the Pittsburgh Penguins capped off the month of October with a Halloween loss to the Minnesota Wild, there has never been a better opening month in franchise history.
With 11 victories in October, they not only topped the best Penguins mark in the month, but also tied the best start by a defending Stanley Cup champion.
But the great success has came at a great price, as Evgeni Malkin , Sergei ...
Buffalo Sabres-New York Islanders: Biron Welcomes Former Team with Career Night
Posted: 31st October 2009 by Ron Van Lew in NHL
In my earlier article today I had made mention of the flu affecting certain players of the Buffalo Sabres team. Never did I know that the entire team must have been going through sympathy illness for their ill comrades.
Tonight the Buffalo Sabres went into the island to collect what some would consider an easy two points. Problem was no one told the Buffalo Sabres about how easy those two ...
Atlanta Thrashers Goalie Ondrej Pavelec Stops 50 Shots in Win Over Ottawa
Posted: 31st October 2009 by Warren Shaw in NHL
Thrasher goaltender Ondrej Pavelec is making believers out of the teams he has faced so far this year.
The Atlanta goalie stopped 50 shots en route to a 3-1 win over the Senators on Saturday.
The 22-year-old netminder was outstanding and the catalyst behind the Thrashers victory over Ottawa.
"He was fabulous," Thrashers coach John Anderson said. "One of the best games I've ever seen in goal. He made us win."
Before this season, ...
