Valuing Joel Pineiro: What Will the Cardinals Pitcher Garner on the Open Market?
Posted: 29th September 2009 by Josh Levitt in MLB
What kind of contract will Joel Pineiro get on the open market? The great Jon Heyman took a stab at that very question yesterday with this prediction:
"Pineiro, two years, $15 million."
This prediction is interesting to me because it's far lower than my prediction for Pineiro a week back of four years/$40 million. Either I really like Pineiro or Heyman really dislikes Pineiro. Or maybe the market just sucks. But nevertheless, here's ...
You Had Me at Halo: The Feel-Good L.A. Angels of Anaheim Clinch A.L. West
Posted: 29th September 2009 by Adam Bernacchio in MLB
With their 11-0 whitewashing of the Texas Rangers last night, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim clinched a spot in the 2009 postseason and their third straight AL West title.
If there was a year the Angels were going to stumble and not make the playoffs, this was it.
They had the horrific tragedy of Nick Adenhart in April, it seemed like their entire starting rotation was on the DL in April ...
Oakland Raiders Should Have Kept Garcia Instead of Starting Russell

What's Bugging Me is a weekly column on FantasyPros911.com
What's bugging me this week? How about the Oakland Raiders deciding to stick with Quarterback JaMarcus Russell instead of Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Jeff Garcia. When Garcia signed with the Raiders in the offseason, it appeared he would compete with Russell for the starting job at quarterback, considering all the success he's seen throughout his 11-year career (he lead three different ...
It's an almost certainty that in 2009 every American League team will have struck out at least 1,000 times.
Oakland has 998 strikeouts, Chicago has 986, New York has 975, Minnesota is at 973, and Baltimore has the fewest with 970.
The league average for team strikeouts is 1,052.
The Mets Will Not Have 1,000 Strikeouts The only National League teams that have fewer than 1,000 strikeouts are the Mets (907) and the ...

Another week in the NFL, and once again, fans find themselves on a roller-coaster ride early in this 2009-2010 season. As all four teams had division games this week, let's delve into the AFC North's fun-filled adventure.
In Baltimore, the Raven's took it to the Browns and never really let up. With a final score of 34-3, it is the largest margin of victory this week (beating the Giants, who blanked ...
Love Him or Leave Him, Freddy Sanchez Will Be a Giant in 2010 (So Love Him)
Posted: 29th September 2009 by Andrew Nuschler in MLB
I'm not sure what to make of a headline that announced Freddy Sanchez is "open" to the idea of staying with the San Francisco Giants in 2010. In all honesty, my first reaction was to be a little perturbed.
When the second baseman came over at the trade deadline for once prized-prospect Tim Alderson, the Giants Faithful were sold on what a Good Guy and great clubhouse presence Sanchez would be. ...
Wing And A Prayer: 10 NBA Players Whose Careers May Hinge On This Season
Posted: 29th September 2009 by Hadarii Jones in NBA
For a select group of NBA players, this season will bring a variety of challenges. These hurdles could ultimately decide how relevant they remain to the game.
Some players are faced with the transition to a new team, while others are coming off major injuries.
Some players are trying to return to an elite level, while others would be happy just to see the court again.
Whatever the issue may be, there is ...
Fantasy Baseball: Tuesdsay News and Notes

North Carolina weather is not too shabby at all. When you consider that it stays close to 80 this late in September, and that two inches of snow can shut the state down, there is a fair amount of upside to spending time in the south. Unfortunately for my cousin and his bride, they picked the worst day for weather in the last six months.á

Tuesday Morning Running Back Week Three: Lions Snap Skid
Posted: 29th September 2009 by Dan Pieroni in NFL
It's the home base of the declining U.S. auto industry, as well as the home of baseball's Tigers, who are clinging to a sparse two-game lead in the AL Central as I write this.
Long story short, the people of Detroit needed a pick-me-up to get them thinking positive again.
Well, they got it in the most unlikely source.
Finally, after 19 straight losses, the Detroit Lions tasted victory for the ...
